Vaccines

Typhoid

is typically not needed, but Mexico is a mountainous country and it may be considered if visiting the traditional highlights, between 5,000-7,000 ft. including Mexico City, Guadalajara, and the southern states of Oaxaca and Chiapas. Consider traveling with medication for altitude sickness as symptoms set in within the first 6-24 hours.

Malaria Medication

if traveling to high transmission areas, such as Chiapas and Chihuahua. Minimal malaria transmission elsewhere in Mexico, but present in popular areas of Campeche, Durango, Nayarit, Quintana Roo, Sinaloa, Sonora, and Tabasco. Plan ahead- you may have to start taking medication for several days before and after you travel to ensure that it is effective.
